Unhandmade Giveaway: Putumayo Rhythm & Blues CD {Closed}

This post is a bit unusual. I don't generally review and offer giveaways of non-handmade items and I don't normally post two giveaways in a week or for longer than a week but I couldn't turn down this opportunity. So this week, you, my readers, are lucky ones.

A few weeks ago a representative for Putumayo World Music got in touch with me and asked if I would like to review one of their new CDs and give one away. Little did he know that I was well aware of Putumayo and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE their compilations. I have a bunch of their music (mostly African and Latin) in my iTunes collection and I have given a few of the kids CDs away as gifts. As you can see, it was very hard for me to say "No" just because I don't usually offer non-handmade giveaways. (By doing this giveaway, I'm secretly hoping I will have the opportunity to review future Putumayo CDs as well. Shh!)

If you haven't heard of Putumayo, the label was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world's cultures. Since its founding, the label has become known for its compilations of great international music; and according to their website, "characterized by the company's motto: 'guaranteed to make you feel good!'" For more information on Putumayo, visit the fascinating About Us section of their website. You can also learn more about Putumayo Kids on the same page. If you have children, I highly recommend their CDs.

Well, now for the giveaway CD...

Earlier this month, Putumayo released Rhythm & Blues, their newest addition to the successful American music series. Rhythm & Blues features first generation soul legends and rising stars of the retro R&B revival. Featured artists include New Orlean's legends Snooks Eaglin, Irma Thomas and Rockie Charles, as well as first generation soul and contemporary artists Lavelle White; The Emotions; Sam Moore, Keb' Mo and Angie Stone; Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings; The Quantic Soul Orchestra; Catherine Russell; Ruthie Foster; Cracked Ice and James Hunter.

Its been awhile since I listened to rhythm & blues. I actually haven't listened to much music at all lately. Strange since I have this dream of one day going back to school for ethnomusicology. This afternoon I decided to pop the CD in while I was making a few pairs of earrings. I was pleasantly surprised! I really liked many of the songs and as the CD progressed, I liked it more. It ended before I was done making my earrings so I put it on again and my like did not change. I think I even picked a favorite! - "Put Me Down Easy" - Like all of Putumayo's CDs, Rhythm & Blues adheres to the company's motto; it makes you feel good.
